About Me + Frequently Asked Questions!
Get To Know Me!
My name is Noelle Madrie, in 2024 I started upcycledblooms as a way to share my passion for art in a new format. I've been making art since I was little and discovered my voice in the process. When I was around 8 years old my grandma Peets taught me how to machine sew quilts and pillowcases. By high school, I was designing costumes for musicals and hemming dresses. Recently, I learned about the ancient technique called appliqué. This is the process of cutting out fabric shapes and sewing them together to form a picture. I fell in love with making my fabric designs, so my grandma helped my art pieces come to life by giving me her unwanted scraps. Using scraps lets me play around with colors and patterns making each image pop.
My Mission To Combat Textile Waste.
Upcycledblooms combats uniformity and adds uniqueness into the world by turning scrap fabric into fun wearable or hangable artwork. I draw inspiration from the natural world for all my designs in order to preserve the natural beauty of the world. A majority of the materials that I use for my artwork are found second hand, or donated to me to combat textile waste unlike fast fashion. This includes my second hand sewing machines, recycled packaging, fabric, buttons, threads, frames, etc. Reduce, Reuse, Upcycle!
Frequently asked questions:
I saw an art piece that I liked but I cant seem to find it for sale?
Every upcycled bloom art piece is 1 of 1 meaning it will never be made exactly the same again and each design is unique. Once an item has sold, it is unfortunately out of stock. Some designs can be made again in a similar fashion in a different size or style of clothing, but some pieces will remain one of a kind forever. The best way to stay up to date with what's available/will be available is on my Instagram-- @upcycleblooms
What sewing machine do you use?
Brother LS2125 from the 90s
Why are your pieces so expensive?
At upcycled blooms, each art piece is made entirely by me with love and good intentions. I also strive to make sure that all of my art pieces are made with quality craftsmanship, low waste and sustainability in mind. None of my designs are mass productions, every piece of art you see under my label is entirely one of a kind. As sole entrepreneur lady, I personally handle every aspect of my business, from sourcing high-quality second-hand fabrics/ clothing items, sewing, packaging, customer service, website building, advertising, laundering the fabrics, designing images for my brand/ coming up with unique concepts, etcetera. To run Upcycled blooms I have a lot of background work and expenses that often go unnoticed as these processes takes a lot of time and commitment. All of these factors make up the cost associated with each art piece and ensure that when you make a purchase from Upcycled blooms it will last a lifetime.
How to wash handmade garments:
Hand wash or machine wash cold low spin, hang or dry on low temperature. Turn designs inside out so they don't snag on other clothing items. Washing handmade clothing in hot water can ruin designs overtime.
